Image Analysis
Henri Cartier-Bresson
In this photo Henri Uses leading Lines, This makes the photo more interesting as when the audience look at this photo their eyes follow the lines round in like a circle, For example in this photo the eyes follow the stairs down and then when they get to the middle of the stairs the eyes move onto the bike. I like this photo as in this picture that Henri has captured there is a range of texture, For example the pavement and the walls, This makes the photo more interesting to look. I think when an image has lots of texture it makes the picture have a lot more to look at and there is a lot more detail too see, it makes the picture have a lot more going on and can make the picture look busy instead of plain and bland. Henri has used a slow shutter speed in this photo, we know this because the bike is blurred, this makes the picture a lot more interesting than it would if there was a fast shutter speed as the photo is still but then draws attention to the bike as it is blurred and you can tell that the bike was moving, also by using slow shutter speed on this photo it gives the audience an interesting aspect of the photo as the full photo is still apart from the bike, this makes the attention draw to the bike as its the only moving object in the picture.
In this photo i think the semiotic meaning is that the person on the bike is going through a long journey (bike ride) but this could also mean a journey through his life.
Dorothea Lange
In this photo Dorothea uses a lot of texture, for example the differences between the gravel, road and hills in the background, I think this makes the photo more interesting as you can look into the photo a lot deeper than it just being a picture of a car with a person sitting on it, you can look at the different types of textures and imagine in your head what they feel like and what kind of style/mood the picture is meant to be.
In this photo Dorothea also uses focus, For example, the car in the photo is in a lot more detail and focus than the hills in the background, this makes the image compelling and also gets the point across to the audience for what the main object is meant to be, this also makes the main object stand out from the rest of the photo, drawing attention that certain object. Dorothea also uses quite a low angle, this is so that we can see the hills which are high up and the road/gravel which is low down. I like this photo as the black and white makes the photo seem more antique and old, This also makes the photo seem to have emotion.
Bill Brandt
In this Photograph Bill uses a range of different light, The building in the background is very dark, along with the wall on the right, However in the center of the photo It is highlighted, this shows us the texture of the bricks on the path ans allows us to see the detail of the bricks. Bill also uses leading lines on this photo as we are leaded to the end of the path, The image is 'drawing' us in, making you follow the path right to the bottom. In this photo Bill also makes the bricks on the path stand out by focusing on this certain bit of the photo, This makes the photo more interesting to look at and allows us to look into the photo deeper, and see details we couldn't see if we just glanced.
In this photo i think the semiotic meaning is that you never know what is coming, meaning you can't always know what is going to happen with life. (You never know what is around the corner) and i think this photo is saying the path/ journey could be bumpy but you can always
Nan Goldin
In this photo i think the semiotic meaning is the women is in a violent relationship but is madly in love with him, so what i think this photo means is that sometimes love is pain.
