ISO

                                                                        ISO
ISO is How sensitive the camera is to light. When using a high ISO to take pictures this can make your picture very light and 'Grainy', This can be a disadvantage when taking photos with a high ISO because this doesn't allow you to get all the detail you want and makes your picture lighter which can block out the little details you really want. When using a high ISO this makes the picture more sensitive and gives you less quality. However when using a low ISO this makes your picture better quality and more detail, This allows you to capture every little detail you want.
In this photo i made my ISO low for example i used 200, This made the picture quite dark but made the quality of the photo really good, If you look on the floor its not just a smooth purple/blue floor, It is rubbery and bumpy, By making my ISO low this has allowed me to capture the details of the floor, However if i made my ISO high this wouldn't let me capture the details of the floor.

This photo that i have taken i used a high ISO, this doesn't allow me to get the full detail as the photo is capturing to much light and is blocking out the lines on the leaves. This also makes my photo have less quality and makes the photo have a slight 'grainy' effect. For this photo i used a high ISO (3200)

However, on this photo i have used a lower ISO (200), which allows me to capture a lot of detail on the leaves, For example if you look closely at the leaves you can see the very faint lines on the green leaf which you couldn't on the image above. The shadows on the leaves which overlap also stand out a lot better as the camera isn't taking in too much light. This photo is giving you more detail and a better quality image than using your ISO higher.

In this photo i have used a high ISO we can tell this because the photo is a lot lighter and looks a lot rougher rather than smooth, This also doesn't allow us to capture all the detail because when i had taken this photo the sun was shining onto the tree and we could see this, however we have used a high ISO which has made the picture that light that we can't see the sun shining onto the photo. When putting my ISO on high (3200) this hasn't allowed to to see all of the leaves on this tree either.
However on this photo i have used a low ISO we know this because we have a better quality image in front of us to look at. If we look at the leaves on this tee we can see every single leaf on each brunch, on the other hand we can't see every leaf on the picture above as the camera wouldn't let us because of how much light it was taking in. On this photo we can also see the sun shining which we couldn't on the photo above. By using a lower ISO this has allowed me to capture every bit of detail i could see with my own eyes.

Salgado's Images

                                                              Salgado's images

Salagdo was born on February the 8th in Brazil. He has traveled in over 100 countries for his photographic projects. In Salgado's images he links them all too one an other, for example he takes pictures of those working hard.
The lighting in this image is quite dull, this makes the image look sad  and fits with the picture because if you have people working hard and they look quite poor the mood is going to be dull and upset, which is what the lighting looks like.
In this image you have leading lines from were they are pushing

For example in this photo there is a family pushing there family goods (food, clothes ect) You can see the man in the family (presuming he is the father) is trying really hard and putting alot of effort into pushing there goods around, we can tell he is trying hard as he is properly bending forwards as far as he can and his arms are in line with his body.

For example in this photo you can see 3 men trying to chop wood down, maybe for a fire to keep warm, or make shelter. We can see that these men are working hard as one of the men have the knife on the wood and are trying to chop it down.

In this photo there is a man/young boy climbing a hill with some things which i think are rocks from the bottom of the hill and he has to climb up this hill with heavy things also on his back.

Robert Frank - Achievement

Some of Robert Franks imagery

Some of my imagery
I think that this photo is an Achievement because the leaf on this little bush is the only leaf left and the rest have fallen off, As this is the only leaf left on the tree i think it is an achievement as this leaf has lasted the longest out of all the other leaves that was once on tree and will be the last leaf to fall off the tree.

I think that this photo is also an achievement as this green leaf right in the middle of the image is still green and 'full of life', On the other hand all the leaves around this one green leaf are all red and brown. This means this leaf has manged to stay green and ripe longer than the other leaves surrounding it.

I think that this image that i have taken is also an achievement as this tree still has nearly all of its leaves still on the tree and not many of the leaves have fallen off. I also think this is quite an achievement as i manged to take the photo quickly while the sun was shining onto the tree/branch.

Re-Creating Artists imagery

                                                Re-Creating Artists imagery

These imagies are things that are happening natrually, For example poeple working on the computers and friends chatting with eachother. There are also popele coming out of the lift and walking,

Diane Arbus

                                                                     Diane Arbus

Diane Arbus tends to take images of unusual things, For example in the picture with the little boy he is holding a grenade, to the public this doesn't seem very normal a little boy holding a grenade, Diane Arbus gave the little boy the grenade to play with, however she didn't tell him to look angry and clench his fist, She took this photo as it's very unusual for a boy with a grenade to look angry and fustrated.
In the photo of the family, there isn't many disabled people, so when she saw this family she noticed that this was also strange and unusual, and for the twin photo, there arn't many twins so when she saw these twins she also tooik a picture of this because twins are different.

Henri-Cartier Bresson's -Re- creating his imagery

My Re-created Photo's From Henri-Cartier Bresson

In these images of mine above i have taken pictures of people doing natural things, this is what Henri-carter Bresson does, so he does not ask people to act in his photos. He simply captures them doing natural things without any acting.

Some of Henri-Cartier Bresson's imagery

Lee Friedlanders - Re-creating his imagery

Re-creating Lee Friedlanders Images
In this image i have taken i have made my face not noticeable as you cannot see my face in the left hand corner, and then when you look at my reflection in the phone my face still isn't very clear, as you don't have a lot of detail on my eyes and mouth as there are shadows,  this could show a lack of identity, or could also mean a split personality.
In this photo i am only showing half of my face, and there is only one eye in the picture, this is like Friedlander's images as in one image he is sat in a car taking a photo in the wing mirror, and he only has one one eye showing, This tells us nothing about the photographer and gives us no information on his personality.

For this photo i made sure that my head wasn't in the photo at all, because on one of Friedlander's images he doesn't have his face/head in as there is a picture covering his head up.

Lee Friedlanders Imagery

In this picture Friedlander needs the women in the picture other wise, if the women wasn't there, he wouldn't be involved in the picture. We cannot see Friedlanders face, all we can see is a shadow, with no detail. This could mean lack of identity, By the looks of this photo the women is not aware that he is taking a picture.

In this photo Friedlander again is not showing his face and is only showing his shadow of his top half of his body. This can also show/mean lack of identity.

Friedlander in this photo is sill not showing all of his face, this can also mean lack of identity

Image Analysis

                                                          Image Analysis

 Henri Cartier-Bresson
In this photo Henri Uses leading Lines, This makes the photo more interesting as when the audience look at this photo their eyes follow the lines round in like a circle, For example in this photo the eyes follow the stairs down and then when they get to the middle of the stairs the eyes move onto the bike. I like this photo as in this picture that Henri has captured there is a range of texture, For example the pavement and the walls, This makes the photo more interesting to look. I think when an image has lots of texture it makes the picture have a lot more to look at and there is a lot more detail too see, it makes the picture have a lot more going on and can make the picture look busy instead of plain and bland. Henri has used a slow shutter speed in this photo, we know this because the bike is blurred, this makes the picture a lot more interesting than it would if there was a fast shutter speed as the photo is still but then draws attention to the bike as it is blurred and you can tell that the bike was moving, also by using slow shutter speed on this photo it gives the audience an interesting aspect of the photo as the full photo is still apart from the bike, this makes the attention draw to the bike as its the only moving object in the picture.
In this photo i think the semiotic meaning is that the person on the bike is going through a long journey (bike ride) but this could also mean a journey through his life.

Dorothea Lange
In this photo Dorothea uses a lot of texture, for example the differences between the gravel, road and hills in the background, I think this makes the photo more interesting as you can look into the photo a lot deeper than it just being a picture of a car with a person sitting on it, you can look at the different types of textures and imagine in your head what they feel like and what kind of style/mood the picture is meant to be.
In this photo Dorothea also uses focus, For example, the car in the photo is in a lot more detail and focus than the hills in the background, this makes the image compelling and also gets the point across to the audience for what the main object is meant to be, this also makes the main object stand out from the rest of the photo, drawing attention that certain object. Dorothea also uses quite a low angle, this is so that we can see the hills which are high up and the road/gravel which is low down. I like this photo as the black and white makes the photo seem more antique and old, This also makes the photo seem to have emotion.

Bill Brandt

In this Photograph Bill uses a range of different light, The building in the background is very dark, along with the wall on the right, However in the center of the photo It is highlighted, this shows us the texture of the bricks on the path ans allows us to see the detail of the bricks. Bill also uses leading lines on this photo as we are leaded to the end of the path, The image is 'drawing' us in, making you follow the path right to the bottom. In this photo Bill also makes the bricks on the path stand out by focusing on this certain bit of the photo, This makes the photo more interesting to look at and allows us to look into the photo deeper, and see details we couldn't see if we just glanced.
In this photo i think the semiotic meaning is that you never know what is coming, meaning you can't always know what is going to happen with life. (You never know what is around the corner) and i think this photo is saying the path/ journey could be bumpy but you can always

Nan Goldin

In this photo i think the semiotic meaning is the women is in a violent relationship but is madly in love with him, so what i think this photo means is that sometimes love is pain.

Picture styles, picture balance, raw vs JPEG

There are many different types of picture styles to choose from, For example, there is black
and white, sepia, standard, saturation and contrast. Picture styles can be used to change the
appearance of a JPEG based image.

RAW is a format that is uncompressed or processed. It contains all the information recorded when the picture was taken, and allows for changes such as picture style and white balance to be made. RAW files are 2-6 times larger than a JPEG.  However,  JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is a standard format, useable with almost any software. It is a compressed file, which saves space but lacks quality (similar to an MP3) ,It can be manipulated, but loses quality each time you save the file
Here are some photos i have used different picture styles with:

This photo i used contrast.

This photo i used standard.

This photo i used saturation.
This photo i used black and white.
